AN INTRODUCTION

The School
The Japanese School was established by the Singapore Japanese Association and was officially registered in December 1966 by the Singapore Government in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph 23 Clause 3 of the Singapore education Act of 1957. The registration number of the Japanese School is 227.

Each colour used carries a symbolic meaning,

"white" represents purity and virtue,
"yellow" represents passion,
"mauve" represents love, and
"black" represents determination.

School Management

The School is supervised and managed by the Singapore Japanese School, Management Committee in accordance with the requirements of the Singapore Education Act, Chapter 175 (1970) and School's regulations (1957).

The Committee's responsibilities are to:

a.determine the school's objectives,
b.
employ the school's personnel and staff,
c.
control the school's property and budget, and
d.
deal with any matters arising thereof.

The committee comprises of not more than 15 members and consist of:

a.

a representative from the Embassy of Japan as an honorable chairman,
b.
representatives from the Japanese Association Singapore as the Chairman and the Committee members,
c. the principals from the Primary Schools,
d.
the principal from the Secondary School,
e.
other members appointed by the Committee,
f.
and the Secretary General of the School as the secretary.

The School receives funds from the following sources: the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs subsidizes building expenses, the Ministry of Education, Culture,Sports,Science and Technology,Government of Japan (MEXT) provides the school with very large numbers of experienced teachers from Japan, while private enterprises donate and parents pay reasonable amount of fees.

The Aims of Education

The School was established for the purpose of providing and promoting education in the Japanese Language in Singapore. The School is to provide suitable Primary and Secondary education with up-to-date Japanese educational methods and principles.

The School shall provide facilities for the mental, physical and moral development of the pupils.
The School shall undertake to develop the pupil's whole personality, their mental and physical health and shall inculcate in them the spirit of tolerance, understanding and appreciation of international affairs in order to promote peace and goodwill in the world according to the Japanese education system.

The Schools also provide various English programmes to all grades, which is not required in the Japanese curriculum. These are to equip our students with fluent English skills in preparation for their role as world citizens. The programme include English Conversation Classes for all levels and English Immersion Programmes for Primary and Secondary School students. The Primary School has also started cross-cultural integrated studies in English.

The School Vision

Our school vision is to foster and encourage students tobe competent global citizens who are eager to cooperate with the people in the world,To realize this vision, we have the following five strategies.

Understanding on local environment & exchange activities.
d. Enhancement of IT related education.

Our campuses are to be the place to learn together., to think together, to foster fruitful creativity and to bridge the Japanese and the Singaporean communities.
